  • Coalition membership is currently 10 dedicated external member organizations bringing decades of tobacco control, policy and advocacy and coalition building experience.
  • Membership collaborates around preventing and addressing tobacco use in all populations throughout the state of FL.

  • Governance documents in development to outline roles, responsibilities, and decision-making processes.

  • Transition planning underway to move the FTSP Workgroup 5 into the coalition structure.

  • Goals and objectives established for the FTPC are broadly identified within FTPC’s mission and vision statements.
  • FTPC’s mission is “to prevent tobacco‑related disease by leading coordinated policy action across Florida. We engage partners, advocate at the state level, and mobilize communities to champion proven tobacco control policies while opposing measures that place Floridians at risk.”
  • FTPC’s vision is “a Florida where strong, evidence-based tobacco control policies protect every community, prevent tobacco-related disease, and promote a healthier, tobacco-free future for all. “
  • Granular goals, objectives and strategies for meeting these are still a work in progress.

Goal 6: Increase research and monitoring of emerging tobacco products and industry tactics in order to initiate the adoption of effective tobacco control policies.

  • The consortium is active with 20 + member organizations ranging in type from academic institutions, data analysis and surveillance non-profits to cancer centers .
  • Each member brings to the workgroup subject matter expertise around research, assessment, surveillance and evaluation.

6.2 - Monitor retail markets and media channels quarterly to identify new and emerging tobacco and nicotine products, and industry marketing strategies targeting priority populations.

  • Research Triangle Institute (RTI International) monitors and reports this data quarterly through reports generated for BTFF.

6.3 - Communicate surveillance and research findings by priority population at least annually to state and community partners.

  • Members have presented research findings to national, regional, and local audiences.
  • Topics of presentations include vaping and nicotine pouch use among youth and young adults, tobacco use in rural or low-income communities, and tobacco use in cancer patients/survivors.
